Weebee Doll: A Great Place to Start With Amigurumi

A few days ago my Facebook memory was of my first amigurumi doll: the Weebee doll. I completed it 5 years ago and with it was born my love for making amigurumi!

What is a Weebee Doll?

The Weebee doll pattern was designed by Laura Tegg. It is a free pattern available on Ravelry and is a great place to start with amigurumi! These dolls are a wonderful size, have HUGE huggable heads and tons of clothing options (many are FREE). And her creativity doesn't stop there... she also has patterns for 3 more sizes of this doll (all with clothing) and other doll patterns as well (many are free and all have clothing patterns available.)

Another wonderful thing about these dolls is the Facebook group: Weebee Appreciation Society . In my opinion, this group set this pattern apart from all the other amigurumi designs I tried. This group is so helpful. The pattern designer Laura is the main administrator. She and her wonderful moderators are always ready to help you out , explain something you don't understand and be your cheerleaders. And not only are they there for you, but the whole group is ready to help and encourage. Scroll through tons of inspiring photos and ideas as everyone in the group can post their creations. An extra perk of this Facebook group are the Files. There are found "extras" that have been freely shared by Laura and others in the group.

In the past 5 years, I have made MANY various Weebee dolls and mods. Each time I make one, I say it's "my favorite", but in reality, they all are!

In my opinion, these dolls are the perfect place to start if you want to make amigurumi dolls. The body construction is worked from the feet to the the head. Another great feature is that the feet and arms are crocheted onto the body as you work in continuous rounds. I have found this way of construction is best for myself. The main reason my many amigurumi attempts failed before these dolls was having to sew the limbs on. Mine always turned out wonky.

These were a custom order for my friend's twins.
They are so perfect!

In conclusion, the numerous free patterns, continuous construction, detailed patterns, numerous clothing options as well as the generous support group make these dolls the perfect first amigurumi project!

Are you ready to start your amigurumi journey? Please give one of Laura's dolls a try. You will not be disappointed!

My Vintage Valentine Postman Shelf Sitter pattern brings to life a lovable little boy postman, inspired by my love of vintage greeting cards, especially Valentines. Drawing inspiration from the charming designs of yesteryears found on Pinterest (like these below), he is dressed in his blue uniform with yellow trim. Complete with a postman's cap and a small mail bag to hold those precious love notes, this crochet project is so adorable it will make the receiver's heart melt. The choice of cotton or acrylic yarns in colors picked by you allows for customization, making each creation unique and personal, just like the sentiments shared through vintage Valentines.
