Another version of my FREE crocheted pumpkin pattern!
Remember my recent FREE crocheted pumpkin pattern that is SO EASY and can use any yarn?? Well let me tell ya… not only is it all that and a bag of chips, it is the perfect base to let your creativity run wild!!
Once you understand the construction basics, you can customize it to create so many lovely pumpkins! It is seriously sooo easy.
I had these two tweed yarns together in a bag that I was using for my Sunflower Car ScentZ holder. When I saw them next to each other I thought they would make a gorgeous, rustic looking pumpkin. Know what??? THEY DID!
OMGoodness, isn’t she a beauty! And with the tiny sunflower and leaves… gah… so purty…
I just had to share it with you and how I made it so that you can make one too!
OK, you know how my pumpkin pattern is a row of HDC followed by a row of SC in the BLO, then HDC in the BLO and repeat and repeat until its a certain size? This one follows the same technique… but different. (LOL)
When I envisioned this pumpkin in my head before making it, I knew I wanted the HDC rows to be white and the SC rows (ridges) to be the black. AND… I did NOT want to have to cut each color at the end of the row. So, each color is two rows and you will carry your yarn up one end instead of having to cut it! I know, I know, it’s brilliant.
I absolutely loved the look of it and it would also look good using different colors for the HDC rows and one color for the SC. SEE HOW VERSATILE???? I already have another one planned, but it may not get made until next year… we shall see!
I added a Tiny Sunflower embellishment and also came up with a New Stem and Leaf pattern. If you would like, you can also add tendrils to your pumpkin.
NOTES:
FIRST: make sure you read over the original Free Crocheted Pumpkin Pattern.
You will be following that pattern, except:
- Make your first row (of HDC & SC) in the BLO, but not the second.
- Your panel will be longer. Mine was 48 rows instead of 46. Make sure you end on the second row of an SC color!
New Stem Pattern:
This pattern uses the FPHDC (Front Post Half Double Crochet) stitch.
R1: Make a MR with a 6″ tail. Make 8 SC in the MR. (8)
R2: In BLO, SC around (8)
R3: SC around (8)
R4-8: *FPHDC, SC* around (8) Make sure to stack your FPHDCs on top of each other.
R9: *FPHDC, SC INC* around (12)
R10: *FPHDC, SC INCx2* around (20)
R11: *FPHDC, SC INCx4* around (36)
SlSt into next st. FO leaving a long tail for sewing.
Lightly stuff stem around the MR tail. Give stem a twist. Pull MR tail slightly to pull in the end and bend the stem. Pull the MR tail to the outside of the stem where you will begin sewing. Sew the stem onto the top of the pumpkin. Tie tails together and hide ends inside pumpkin.
Leaves (make 2):
R1: Make a MR with a 4″ tail. In the MR: 3 DC. Ch2, turn
R2: In the same st as the Ch2: 3DC. In next st: {2TC, Picot, 2TC}. In the last st: {3DC, ch2, SlSt}
SlSt into the MR and pull MR tight. FO and cut a 4″ tail. Tie tails together in double knot and use tails to tie/sew leaves onto the pumpkin.
That’s it!
